About JCRC-NY

The Jewish Community Relations Council of New York (JCRC-NY), a proud UJA-Federation of NY agency, serves as the primary community relations agency for the Jewish community in the metropolitan New York area. As an active force in New York civic and communal life, JCRC-NY operates as a central coordinating and resource body to: (1) Be a common table to cultivate understanding and joint action amongst diverse groups within the Jewish community; (2) Cultivate deeper relationships with the broader New York community to address critical issues and engender a shared society; (3) Ensure the security of the Jewish community in the face of rising antisemitism; and (4) Foster increased understanding and appreciation for the Jewish community’s relationship with Israel among diverse groups of New Yorkers.

The Program Associate, Israel and Jewish Affairs, is a critical member of the JCRC-NY team with a wide range of responsibilities spanning the breadth of the agency. This position is full-time (40 hours per week) and requires working some evenings and weekends (Sundays) throughout the year. The Program Associate reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer, and must be based in the New York metropolitan area. Under new leadership, JCRC-NY seeks to intensify its community relations efforts, strengthen existing partnerships and build new relationships with diverse leaders in our city to advance the values, interests and security of the New York Jewish community and build a more interconnected New York for all.

Responsibilities include:

• Planning, content development, promotion and coordination of programs, activities and events, including but not limited to, high level briefings, conference calls, webinars, activism and community organizing
• Conducting outreach and communicating effectively with influential leaders within and outside the Jewish community in the New York area, including clergy, executives, elected and public officials, and their staffs
• Implementing local advocacy campaigns on issues of concern to the Jewish community both locally and within the international arena
• Assisting with all logistical aspects of missions to Israel, including outreach, insurance, itineraries, rosters, and pre- and post-mission data collection
• Ensuring that administrative tasks are resolved in a timely, accurate, and professional manner, and that records are kept up-to-date
• Regularly managing and updating the JCRC-NY and Celebrate Israel Parade websites, and providing content for social media platforms
• Working with the Director of the Faculty Engagement Program to aid in recruitment, planning, graphic design and outreach for on-campus events, courses, and missions to Israel
• Assisting Celebrate Israel Parade staff in all matters, including completing and submitting all necessary government permits to the proper authorities prior to their stated deadlines and conducting outreach to rabbis, community leaders, public figures, and elected officials
• Drafting and editing grant applications and reports and submit in a timely manner
• Producing and creating content for the JCRC-NY webcast, the Community Relations Corner
• Updating the annual Focus on Communal Priorities policy compendium and edit subsequent drafts and coordinating the Congressional Conversations web series
• Completing additional tasks as necessary

Requirements

• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Significant attention to detail and accuracy, with an ability to manage multiple and competing priorities simultaneously
• Knowledge of current affairs concerning Israel and global Jewish affairs
• Familiarity with the diversity of the New York Jewish Community
• A strong capacity with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications and Google-Suite (mail, drive, docs, calendar, and sheets)
• Goal-oriented, organized and strategic thinker
• Ability to coordinate scheduling and meetings
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Ability to work with graphics and familiarity with Canva, HTML, Publisher, Illustrator, Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat a plus
• Previous experience working in a Jewish or other non-profit organization a plus
